Batting Cleanup is a collaborative applied innovation project that empowers Toledo residents to report city maintenance issues instantly using QR code technology, while leveraging data science to optimize municipal services and improve community quality of life.
Citizens encounter full trash cans, graffitied bus stops, and litter daily, but lack an efficient way to report these issues. City departments struggle with reactive maintenance scheduling and limited visibility into problem patterns.
QR code-enabled reporting system with intelligent backend analytics to transform how Toledo maintains public spaces.
On Mud Hens Opening Day, the Warehouse District and select locations throughout downtown Toledo will be activated with QR codes on trash receptacles.
Leading up to the event, an awareness campaign will be deployed across local media to ensure the community knows how to participate.
On the day of the game, trained spokespeople will be on-site demonstrating how to use the system to quickly report full or overflowing trash receptacles.
This initiative makes it easy for everyone to play a role in supporting Keep Toledo Lucas County Beautiful—turning awareness into action and helping keep downtown Toledo clean on one of its busiest days of the year.
